The findings of Louise Casey’s inspection of Rotherham Borough Council have identified past and present failures to accept, understand and combat the issue of child sexual exploitation, resulting in a lack of support for victims and insufficient action against known perpetrators.

These failures are wholly unacceptable and I support the decision of the Council's Cabinet to resign. I also fully support the Communities and Local Government Secretary’s decision to appoint commissioners to oversee the improvements at the Council that are urgently required.
There have to be improvements in all the agencies responsible for investigating these awful crimes and there is also an urgent need for more resources from the Government to help support the victims, who even now are still being let down.
