The Office for National Statistics published figures last week showing a 20% rise in the number of people with a zero-hours contract.

Last week in Parliament, the Prime Minister had a chance to show working families that he is on their side by voting for a motion on fair pay. It was argued that bonuses should be rewards for exceptional performance and the motion called on the Government to support a tax on these bonuses to fund a guaranteed paid starter job for young people who have been out of work for a year.

This was a really important vote because it gave the Prime Minister a chance to stand up to the banks and be on the side of those who are still struggling, but unfortunately the Government voted it down.
