I am lending my support to the Contact a Family charity’s Counting the Costs campaign.

Shaped by what thousands of families with disabled children say would help, this campaign calls on the Government and energy companies to offer a fairer deal to families with disabled children.

In one of the biggest surveys of its kind, with over 3,500 responses from families with disabled children, Contact a Family’s Counting the Costs 2014 research found that two thirds say they are confused about how future benefit changes will affect their family income. It also found that more than a quarter have extra costs of £300 or more every month relating to their child’s disability, with the biggest cost being higher heating and utility bills.

The Counting the Costs campaign wants to get more families seeking advice on their finances and benefits. Last year the Contact a Family helpline supported more than 10,000 families with disabled children - giving life-changing advice on getting back to work, benefits, energy saving tips - in fact any aspect of raising a disabled child.
