As you will be aware, the Government this week introduced the European Union (Notification of Withdrawal) Bill, also known as the 'Article 50 Bill', to Parliament that would give it this approval. I accept and respect the result of the referendum on the UK's membership of the EU and I will therefore vote for this Bill at its Second Reading in the House of Commons on Wednesday. However, it is vital that the UK secures the best exit deal from the EU in the negotiations that will follow the triggering of Article 50 - one that protects jobs, living standards and workers' rights.
We will have further votes on this bill in the coming weeks and I will consider all amendments no matter which party has tabled them, but will not support any that delay the triggering of Article 50. I would like thank everybody that has taken the trouble to make me aware of their views on this issue.
