/ Impact Of Spending Review
27 Oct 2010
This week we have started to see the impact that decisions made in the Chancellor’s Comprehensive Spending Review will have on the Rother Valley.
New analysis of the latest unemployment figures shows that up to 175 people in Rother Valley would lose 10% of their housing benefit if proposed Government plans were in force today. People who are doing all the right things, attending interviews and being available for work, but who still can’t find a job after 12 months. Under Government plans for 2013, they would lose on average around £9 a week, which charities have warned could lead to homelessness.
This isn’t a cut for people who are playing the system; it’s punishing those who are trying to find a job.
