As a result of the Department of Transport’s spending review settlement we have now learnt the fate of a number of proposed road and transport schemes for our area.

I am pleased that the road widening scheme for junctions 32-35a of the M1 has been given the green light, this major upgrade will help relieve congestion through South Yorkshire. It was also good to hear that the A57 Todwick Crossroads scheme has been confirmed, although it will be subject to a public inquiry.

However in the week when the Prime Minister rightly praised Orgreave’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, we learnt that Rotherham Borough Council will now have to bid for funding for the Waverley Link Road scheme over the next few months.
