This morning I will be paying a visit to the Rotherham Institute for Obesity to help celebrate its first birthday. The Institute is based on Doncaster Gate and is a specialist centre for the management of weight problems. It has been commissioned as part of the NHS Rotherham Strategy to help control weight problems in any patient (adult or child) who is registered to a Rotherham GP and meets the agreed referral criteria.
Since the Institute opened last year over 1,800 patients have been seen and in a recent audit of those patients still attending at six months, 57% of adults and 71% of children met, or did better than their NHS Rotherham weight loss targets.
My congratulations go to everyone who has helped make the Institute such a success.
