As the snow and ice continue to cause difficulties for people in the Rother Valley, I would like to pay tribute to all the residents who have helped out those in need at this tough time, particularly the Anston villagers who assisted the stranded drivers on the A57.

Last week in the House of Commons I asked the Transport Secretary to find out why the A57 had been allowed to get into a state of such chaos. He has since advised me that the police closed the road but some drivers chose to ignore the ‘Road Closed’ signs. As a consequence some vehicles became stuck in snow on the closed section and this hampered the efforts to clear and re-open the road.

On Friday morning I am meeting with the Chief Executive and Leader of the Council to discuss Rotherham Borough Council’s response to the adverse weather conditions.
