I have pledged my support to Myeloma UK's TAKE 2 Campaign to improve early diagnosis of the illness.

Early diagnosis is vital in myeloma as up to 20% of patients die within the first 60 days because it is too late to start treatment, while a late diagnosis can also increase the complications caused by myeloma and affect quality of life.

Myeloma is a rare cancer and GPs will only come across a few cases during their career. Myeloma can also be difficult to recognise because the main signs and symptoms are sometimes confused with other more common causes.

This is why Myeloma UK have developed the Myeloma Diagnosis Pathway. By informing GPs on the signs, symptoms and tests for myeloma it is hoped that the likelihood of delayed diagnosis can be reduced.
