A British Waterways project to repair the 18th Century Kiveton Retaining Wall on the Chesterfield Canal has been recognised for its commitment to environmental quality.

Work on the wall, which forms a cutting on the Canal, has received an ‘Excellent’ award from CEEQUAL, an assessment and awards scheme for improving sustainability in civil engineering and public realm projects. The work, which began in 2009, focused on partially rebuilding the deteriorating limestone canal cutting and was carried out in accordance with appropriate biodiversity and heritage guidance.

The Chesterfield Canal Trust recently launched a petition to demonstrate local support for the Canal’s preservation and restoration. For further details and/or a copy of the petition e-mail
