It was encouraging to hear the recent news that extra train carriages are going to be added to Northern Rail’s fleet later this year in a bid to ease congestion on Yorkshire’s rail network.

Although no decision has yet been taken as to exactly where the enhanced rolling stock will be deployed, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive have informed me that they are hopeful it will cover peak time journeys on the Lincoln to Sheffield line.

This particular route (which goes through the two stations in Kiveton) sees the highest level of overcrowding in South Yorkshire, so it will be pleasing if something is finally done to improve this situation.
