The Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation (CISWO) still retains a presence in many former mining communities in the Rother Valley, supporting Miners’ Welfare schemes in particularly.

CISWO also have Social Work teams operating across the country, offering a social work service within coalfield communities, as well as having specialist expertise in working with disabilities and the challenges facing older people. The CISWO Regional Office in Yorkshire, based in Pontefract, can offer free advice and practical assistance to anyone currently or formerly involved with the coal mining industry. CISWO can assist in all manner of issues related to health and finance as well as other personal issues.

The CISWO Social Work team can arrange confidential home visits to provide a thorough welfare benefits service, which includes advice on benefits entitlement, assistance to complete application forms and ongoing support throughout the application process.
