Increased Difficulties For Police

The Government's Protection of Freedoms Bill, voted on in the House of Commons last week, will make it more difficult for the police to use CCTV and DNA evidence in the fight against crime.

It is concerning that police and local authorities will need to jump through too many administrative hoops before they can use CCTV, even though it is clear that many communities want it and evidence shows that it works.

The police's right to keep DNA evidence on file will also be affected. We should be helping not hindering the police, so I hope that the Government will think again on CCTV and ensure that our neighbourhoods have the tools they need to support the fight against crime and anti-social behaviour.
