The latest unemployment statistics, published earlier this week, signalled grim news again for the Rother Valley. With six people chasing every job, long term youth unemployment is also now up 69% since the start of the year. The issue of increasing youth unemployment was one I raised with David Cameron at Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday.
The soaring welfare bill, a result of this rise in unemployment, is creating an almighty hangover for Britain to deal with. The Government is now set to borrow £158 billion more than planned – more than £6,500 for every household in the country. This isn’t borrowing to support the economy through difficult times; it is a huge new bill for failure.
