The Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) have recently informed me about their smart meter programme.
The Government are aiming for all homes and smaller businesses in Britain to have smart electricity and gas meters installed by energy suppliers by 2019.
As part of the preparations for mass rollout, the Government have published a set of documents relating to the programme. These include setting out clear rules around what is expected of suppliers during the installation, consulting on proposals around data access and privacy, and consulting on arrangements to help consumers use smart meters.
They are encouraging people to read these documents and to respond to the consultations by the deadlines set out on the DECC website (www.decc.gov.uk).
