This week has been Dementia Awareness Week, the Alzheimer's Society's annual awareness campaign to increase understanding of dementia.

The Alzheimer's Society wants all people with dementia to live well in their communities - that means people living in dementia friendly communities. After being diagnosed with dementia it is important that people can access specialist memory services. However, some memory clinics have waiting times of more than a year, this is completely unacceptable.

I have written to Rotherham PCT to offer my support to help ensure that memory services in our area are serving the needs of people with dementia.

The Alzheimer's Society has a national dementia helpline (0845 3000 366) where specially trained advisers can discuss any concerns around dementia.
