New research by housing charity Shelter has revealed that Rotherham has one of the highest proportions of homeowners at risk of repossession compared to other local authority areas.

The number of mortgage possession claims in the last year in Rotherham was 425, a rate of 4.96 possession claims per 1,000 homes.

The high costs of living, increasing unemployment and rising mortgage costs mean that many people are living close to the edge, and risk falling into a spiral of debt and repossession.

If any local residents are struggling with mortgage costs or would like advice on any housing issue please contact Shelter's free housing advice helpline on 0808 800 4444.
