I have been contacted by a number of constituents on the issue of the single use of plastic carrier bags.

It appears that England is the sole home nation not to have a compulsory levy (usually 5p) on single issue bags. As an environmental issue, plastic is one of the worst offenders. It not only litters town centres and the countryside, but is a serious threat to the lives of animals, birds and sea creatures.

If you would like to contact me about this issue, I would be more than happy to pass on your concerns to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Caroline Spelman MP.
