Nursing Posts Axed

I was concerned to read in the NHS workforce statistics published this week that 5,500 nursing posts have been axed since May 2010, with 700 going in the last month alone.

It is extremely worrying that the Government appears to be prioritising spending on back-office restructuring over protecting the NHS frontline.

A mix of budget cuts and a destabilising reorganisation is taking the NHS to the brink, with patients paying the price as A&E waiting times get longer and the number of patients left waiting on trolleys in hospital corridors up by a third.

A Government that gives tax breaks to millionaires and P45s to nurses must have got its priorities wrong.
