Local Government Funding Reduced

The Government has imposed the biggest funding reductions in the public sector on local councils. Funding for local government is projected to fall by 3.9% in 2013/14 and a further 8.5% in 2014/15. They are responsible for the consequential cuts to local authorities and communities.

Their local government finance settlement is hitting the most deprived areas hardest. The ten most deprived local authorities in England will lose six times the amount in spending power per head of population compared to the ten least deprived local authorities by 2014/15 compared with 2010/11.

The Prime Minister’s local authority of West Oxfordshire, one of the richest parts of the country, will gain 3.1% in spending power in 2013/14 while Rotherham will face a cut.

Because of the decisions of the Government between 2010/11 and 2014/15 local residents are facing a reduction of £150 per head compared to residents of West Oxfordshire who are losing £60. It’s simply wrong and unfair. We need a fair deal for the people of Rotherham.
