I would like to encourage local sports and community clubs to get involved with an Olympic Legacy project, closely linked to the 'Inspired by 2012' initiative.
Join In, an independent charitable trust, was created in 2012 with the specific remit of building on the interest in volunteering and helping to benefit sports clubs all over the UK.
Last year, between the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Join In asked sports clubs and community groups across the UK to open their doors to people who were inspired by London 2012. As a result, over 300,000 people turned up to 6,000 events and, significantly, 30,000 more individuals volunteered at their local clubs. This year, Join In will host an even bigger summer of local sport and community engagement, supported by the London 2012 Games Makers and other Olympic and Paralympic volunteers.
Join In is encouraging clubs to open their doors this summer to attract participants and volunteers alike. They already have over 1,500 events signed up, to find more information and register an event please visit www.joininuk.org. Potential volunteers will also be able to sign up to find local opportunities, Join In will then play matchmaker between clubs and helpers. For more information about this please contact Join In directly via their website.
