Many concerned local residents have contacted me about the Government's plans to privatise Royal Mail.
I continue to oppose the full privatisation of the Royal Mail, believing that both the Royal Mail and Post Office should at all times be publicly owned, giving the taxpayer an ongoing interest in the maintenance of the universal service obligation and an ongoing interest in the inter-business agreement between the Royal Mail and the Post Office, which is so essential to the Post Office network.
Not only will the full privatisation of Royal Mail put the universal service obligation and Post Office network at risk, but the Government has failed to justify launching an initial public offering for Royal Mail now. In their rush to sell off Royal Mail they are not delivering best value for the taxpayer or safeguarding its long-term future.
