Earlier this week I spoke in a Westminster Hall debate about the loss of the concessionary fuel scheme for ex-miners and miners' widows, following the recent demise of UK Coal.

I pointed out that in 1993 the then Government promised to ensure that British Coal's successor companies would protect the continuing concessionary fuel entitlements for those who transferred to their employment.

Whilst this Government may attempt to wriggle out of their responsibilities, the obligation remains, so they should honour this promise.
