The Government have announced further Discretionary Housing Payment funding to deal with the problems caused by the unfair bedroom tax.
The bedroom tax is a cruel and unfair measure that hits over 400,000 disabled people and 60,000 households with carers. For the vast majority of those affected, there is nowhere smaller to move to, hitting vulnerable people through no fault of their own. There is now a real risk that the bedroom tax will cost more money than it saves.
The Government have completely botched this. Only weeks ago they said nobody was using this money, now they’re doubling it. Their bedroom tax is pushing hundreds of families in the Rother Valley into spiralling debt. Instead of stop-gap measures, they should abolish the bedroom tax.
