I am supporting calls for the Chancellor to freeze beer duty in the forthcoming Budget. Such a move would build on the progress made following the cut in beer duty last year.
The beer and pub sector supports nearly 1,800 jobs in the Rother Valley and over 900,000 jobs throughout the UK. These figures show not only how important the industry is to the UK, with almost £22 billion added to the economy, but locally the economic impact can also be felt with £71.2 million added to our area's economy.
A beer duty freeze would secure vital jobs, reduce the cost of living and help secure the important role of the pub in every part of the UK.
