The housing and homelessness charity Shelter offer free, expert, independent housing advice to people who are facing high housing costs and are at risk of eviction or repossession.
Seeking advice early can make all the difference and increase people’s chances of keeping their home.
Shelter’s helpline receives too many calls from people on the brink of losing their home when problems have piled up. New statistics show that one in 102 households in England are at risk of eviction or repossession. Yet worryingly, nearly a third of people don’t know where to go for help with their housing costs.
Shelter can help people challenge illegal eviction, negotiate with a lender to buy more time, access a mortgage rescue scheme, deal with bailiffs, prepare for court and get legal representation in court.
Shelter helps three million people a year with housing problems, through online, phone and face to face advice. For free advice phone 0808 800 4444 or visit www.shelter.org.uk/advice
