Rail System Needs Reform

The Prime Minister has failed to tackle the problems in our rail system which means it is 40% more expensive to run than in other European countries, and is not delivering value for money for passengers or taxpayers.

Over the last four years the Prime Minister has failed to stand up for people, allowing train companies to hit passengers with inflation busting fare rises of nearly 20% since he came to power.

The Government's botched West Coast franchise process has wasted over £50 million of taxpayers’ money and caused chaos in the franchising programme.

I would like to see plans to reform the railways to get a better deal for taxpayers and passengers. After years of franchising chaos and rising fares we need bold action.

We need to reform the franchising system to deliver better value to the taxpayer, bring an end to the monopoly rolling stock market, create a new national rail body to integrate and drive improvement across the system, and deliver a fairer deal for passengers.
