/ Macmillan's Day Of Action
13 Aug 2014
This Friday (15 August) is Macmillan’s day of action on cancer survival and I am supporting their work to prioritise cancer care and improve cancer outcomes. 7,000 people in Rotherham are living with and beyond cancer up to 20 years after diagnosis.
Macmillan is calling for government action to improve cancer outcomes. Currently according to the Eurocare-5 study the one year cancer survival rate for England is 68%, meaning one in three people with cancer die within a year of diagnosis. The best one year survival rate in Europe is 81% in Sweden.
I am backing Macmillan’s calls for the next Government to commit to cancer outcomes matching the best in Europe.
