Regeneration, jobs and investment have been the major issues for the Rother Valley following the demise of the coal and steel industries. South Yorkshire has received many grants through its European Objective One status and has benefited from inward investment and infrastructure projects.
The area has good long distance road links, which have allowed many industrial sites to spring up throughout the Rother Valley. New jobs have been created, such as on the new business park on the site of Dinnington colliery.
